I am an adventurer at heart. Travel is in my blood.
I believe that many business owners start their businesses to allow them the freedom to travel, and oftentimes to work from anywhere. I have had the great privilege of traveling quite a bit and would like to offer you 3 of my favorite hacks for traveling internationally.
Scan your passport, identification card, and itinerary.
Print them, and then email them to yourself.
There’s nothing worse than realizing you’ve left vital information at home. This provides you with 2 extra copies of each in the event of loss or theft.
(Extra Tip: If you have a smartphone – which we all do – once you email the documents to yourself, open the email on your phone, and save them as pictures. This provides you with an additional record, and it’ll also be available even if you have no cell service.
Mark your baggage as fragile.
This is a great tip if you’re running on a tight schedule once you land (like in the case of catching a puddle-jumper to your final destination).
It’s a great way to ensure that your baggage is handled carefully and professionally. But the real bonus is that your luggage will be kept at the top, which will make it among one of the first bags to be taken off the plane! (Yes, I know, you’re welcome!)
Use ATM’s to get local currency.
When using the currency converters at the airport (or even nearby) you’re usually hit with quite a few fees, and the exchange rates are a total rip-off. ATM’s always dispense local currency of course, so use your debit or credit card and get your money there.
The fees the ATM and your bank will charge for using it will typically be far less than one of the currency counters. (Just be sure to notify your bank before you leave so they won’t flag your card(s) while you are traveling).
